The city's unemployment rate stood at six per cent in February, according to Statistics Canada labour market survey numbers released Friday.
That's up slightly from 5.6 per cent in January, even though 300 more people were holding down jobs in February.
The rise can largely be attributed to a 300-person increase in the total looking for work and a 900-person increase in the size of the city's labour force.
As of February, 49,900 people were working, 3,200 were unemployed and 17,500 of working age were not seeking work.
As well, more people were working in February than during the same month the year before, when 47,600 were employed, even though the unemployment rate was 5.2 per cent.
The numbers are based on a three-month rolling average.
