The weather patterns are shifting to colder skies once again for the Prince George area.

As a result of an Arctic airmass settling over B.C.'s Central Interior, Environment Canada has issued another extreme cold warning as of 5 a.m. this morning.

The agency says a period of very cold temperatures are expected, including up to 60 km/h winds, which could produce wind chills of -40 C overnight.

It won't last for long though as wind chill values are expected to ease off by tomorrow afternoon (Feb. 9).

For today (Feb. 8), the risk of frostbite is high and could affect anyone stepping outside within minutes and not being properly dressed.

If you're heading out on the roads today, extreme cold warnings are also in effect for the following areas:

  • B.C. Peace River region
  • Bulkley Valley and Lakes District
  • Cariboo
  • Chilcotin
  • North Thompson
  • Yellowhead Highway at the Alberta border
