Hunting with Holmes: Check out these treasures found at Prince George Hospice Resale Shop

Hospice has the best volunteers!
Hunting with Holmes - Oct. 1, 2020 clothes on hooks
Volunteers spend several hours hanging donated clothes onto hooks for store displays. (via Amanda Holmes for Prince George Hospice Resale Shop)

One of our fantastic new volunteers came up to me this week and mentioned that she was having a hard time disposing of a very well-used blanket that had lived it’s best life.

She felt guilty just throwing it away and not putting it on a hanger for sale.

So this is where the beauty of thrift comes in.

When an article of clothing, linen, blanket, etc., is a bit too worn, stained, or very well-loved, we have one of three options before it goes into a landfill.

First, we can donate it to AiMHi, and, in turn, sells it and makes a profit to support their wonderful program.

Second, we can cut up the articles and make shop rag bags.

These come in super handy for mechanic shops, cleaning your car, garages or even just wiping up around the house.

And last but not least we can use the old linens, pillows and blankets for our pets or to donate to a shelter.

Our fur family does not give a bark if their blanket has a small rip or stain on it.

What better way to line a crate, protect the backseat of your vehicle or put into an outside doggie house?

It’s estimated that the fashion industry currently uses around 79 billion cubic-metres of water per year.

So this is us, all doing our small part in reusing, recycling and re-imagining what once was into something with another useful purpose.
