A Prince George firefighter was taken to hospital with a minor injury sustained while trying to douse a house fire early Sunday morning.
At about 1:51 a.m., 18 firefighters from four Prince George Fire Rescue halls were called to the scene in house in the 200 block of South Kelly Street after a 911 caller noticed flames coming from the rear of the structure near an attached garage. Several occupants of the house left the two-storey building on their own and escaped uninjured before the arrival of the fire crews.
The fire broke through the interior of the building and into the roof before it was extinguished.
Firefighters remained on the scene for four hours watching for hot spots. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Damage is estimated at more than $100,000.
