A stretch of Highway 97 was closed for about two hours on Thursday morning and two people suffered injuries when a commercial truck and trailer went off the road about 10 kilometres north of McLeese Lake, Quesnel RCMP said.

Initial indications are the driver lost control while heading north, left the road and flipped into the ditch on the southbound side.

The two, a 46-year-old man who was behind the steering wheel and a 23-year-old woman who was the passenger, remained in the cab until they were extracted by Williams Lake Highway Rescue.

The man was taken to Williams Lake Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and the woman was transported to Kamloops via air ambulance with injuries to her head and upper body, also non-life threatening.

"At the time of the crash, the road was covered by slush and ice," Quesnel RCMP Cst. Krysta Vrolyk said.

The highway was reopened at about 10 a.m. McLeese Lake is located 198 km south of Prince George.
