If you see someone recklessly driving, you can now report it online to local Mounties.
The Prince George RCMP has expanded its online crime-reporting tool, which gives residents the chance to send tips, under certain conditions, that can help make the community safer.
The two big additions, explained in a police statement this morning (Sept. 28), are the abilities to report traffic complaints, and stolen licence plates and registration decals.
Here’s the updated list of crimes you can now report online:
- Damage/mischief to property valued under $5,000
- Damage/mischief to a vehicle valued under $5,000
- Hit-and-run to property or an unoccupied vehicle
- Theft of bicycle valued under $5,000
- Theft of other property valued under $5,000
- Theft from a vehicle valued under $5,000
- General driving behavior reports that are not in progress
- Lost property including licence plates or validation decals on licence plates
The Prince George RCMP’s online crime-reporting tool has been fully implemented since November 2019.
“In addition to providing a more convenient way for residents to make a report of less serious crimes, this tool allows call takers and frontline personnel to focus on higher priority calls, which will improve overall safety and response times in the city,” explains Cpl. Craig Douglass.
“Not all crimes are reportable through this tool, including crimes against persons.”
Conditions to make those reports are as follows:
- The member of the public making the online report MUST use your real name and have a valid e-mail address
- There MUST NOT be any witnesses or suspects (this restriction does not apply to driving complaints)
- Follow-up by a police officer MUST NOT be required
- Reports MUST NOT involve personal identification (passports, drivers licences, etc) or firearms
- The user MUST agree to the terms and conditions of use
