What began as a run-of-the mill investigation into a speeding vehicle yielded something bigger for Prince George RCMP.

Police said the episode began just before 3 a.m. on Monday when it seen travelling above the posted speed limit on Highway 97 near Austin Road. RCMP caught up when it pulled into a gas station where a subsequent check raised concern it may have been stolen.

The occupants were detained and when a pistol-style pellet gun was found in the pocket of one of them, police carried out a search of the vehicle itself.

A loaded firearm, several more pellet guns, suspected methamphetamine and psilocybin and a large quantity of cash, which police said are consistent with drug trafficking, were uncovered.

Names of the three suspects were not provided. They were released without charge, pending the full results of the investigation.
