On the day his trial was to begin, a Prince George man pleaded guilty Thursday to five charges in relation to a crime spree in University Heights slightly more than a year ago.
Danial Stuart Sundman, 53, pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery and two counts of break and enter to commit an indictable offence in relation to a string of Nov. 14, 2013 incidents.
A pre-sentence report with psychological and psychiatric components was subsequently ordered during a hearing in Prince George provincial court.
Sundman continued to maintain not guilty pleas to two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of assault causing bodily harm.
In a statement issued at the time of his arrest, Prince George RCMP said they were called to the area at 5:36 p.m. when they received a 911 call reporting a woman was struck with a hammer after she refused to hand over the keys to her car.
The man had entered the car while she was checking her mail near the entrance to the subdivision. She fled to a nearby home to call for help after being hit, police said.
Moments later, RCMP received a second 911 call saying a man punched a woman in the face after gaining entry into her home near where the first incident occurred and demanded her keys.
As police arrived at the scene, they received a third 911 call in which they were told a man struck another man with a drain pipe on Kinney Court, about a block away from the first two assaults, before fleeing on foot.
Police brought in a dog who tracked a suspect towards the Davis Road area off Ospika Drive and at about 6:45 p.m. a homeowner flagged down an RCMP member to say a man had broken into his Bona Dea Drive home, off Davis Road.
At that scene, a suspect was arrested in the driveway while allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle. About a minute later, the police dog completed its track to the home.
"Indications were that he had entered the residence through a dog door before exiting and making his way to the vehicle," Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said at the time. "Checks of the first and second victims' vehicles found they had damage to the ignition."
Sundman is known to police and the court and has a criminal record of drug and property-related offences in Prince George.
