Prince George fire rescue

A grass fire in an alley in the 2300 block of Pine Street gave Prince George firefighters more than anticipated when they responded at the call just after 4 p.m. Friday.

Upon arrival, a Prince George Fire Rescue engine crew found multiple grass fires, one of which had spread to an adjacent fence and shop at the rear of the property.

Additional fire crews and trucks were called to the scene and they were able to prevent the structure fire from spreading to the house, but the fence and shop were destroyed in the blaze, causing an estimated $60,000 damage.

There were no injuries. The fire involved 11 PGFR personnel and four pieces of equipment and they were on the scene for two hours.

According to PGFR assistant chief Dan Pears, cause of the fires is considered suspicious and is under investigation.
