Some 12,000 pounds of food was collected during the third annual Thanksgiving Food Drive on Saturday.
"We are pleased with the response," organizer Brice Gurney said. "And we are confident that we can do even more in the years ahead. Special thanks go out to the wonderful citizens of Prince George for being so supportive."
In all, 234 volunteers worked roughly 600 total hours, canvassing more than 6,500 homes this week.
Nearby communities were also involved in the effort. Burns Lake, Vanderhoof, Quesnel, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, and Bella Coola joined in.
Regionally, over 29,000 pounds of food was brought in through the efforts of 470 volunteers, who contributed nearly 1,450 man hours of service.
The B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive was originated by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Burnaby back in 2009. It has since grown to a province-wide multi-faith effort to feed the poor.
