A 900-block Victoria Street motel suffered about $200,000 in damage when a fire broke out Sunday, Prince George Fire Rescue said.
Sixteen firefighters from three halls were called to the Econo Lodge shortly after 7 p.m. and found light smoke coming from the rear of the main floor. Occupants of the building were safely evacuated and there were no injuries reported.
With the help of thermal imaging cameras, the source of the smoke was determined to be between the walls and the first and second floor. And based on the charring to the structural floor joists, they found the fire had been burning for several hours before firefighters, who were on the scene for four hours, were called.
Cause of the blaze has been linked to renovation work that was underway in the area and has been deemed not suspicious, PGFR deputy chief Blake King said.
