As investigations continue, Prince George RCMP have been able to identify the victim of the city's first homicide of 2021.

Elie Eric Blanchard was killed in a targeted incident at a home on 2800-block 15 Avenue around 1:45 a.m. on New Year's Day (Jan. 1).

Officers found the 50-year-old man inside the residence after responding to the incident and securing the area.

In the week since Blanchard's death, police have characterized the investigation as 'intense' and 'exhaustive.'

"Police are asking that anyone who has information about the circumstances which lead to Mr. Blanchard’s murder come forward and provide that information to investigators," asks Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper.

Work is continuing in a joint effort with local Mounties, the Forensic Identification Section and Serious Crimes Unit.
