A man has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of his son in Takla Landing.
Crown counsel has approved the charge against Jacques Seguin, 66, North District RCMP Cpl. Lesley Smith said Monday, after Christopher Seguin, 36, was killed Friday night in what was called a "domestic incident."
Second-degree murder generally applies to murders that take place in the "heat of the moment" and were not planned in advance but where the assailant intended to kill the victim.
Sentencing can vary from life with 10 to 25 years without eligibility for parole, whereas first degree murder carries an automatic term of life without eligibility for parole for 25 years.
Seguin remained in custody as of Monday and will make his first court appearance later this week.
Takla Landing is a small aboriginal community at the north end of Takla Lake, about 200 kilometres north of Fort St. James.
