Winds are expected to gust up to 40 km/h today (March 9) in Prince George, causing dust to dance around sections of the city.
B.C. air quality meteorologists have put a dust advisory in place for the northern capital as a result of rising levels of fine particulate matter.
According to the province's Ministry of Environment, Prince George is sitting at 48.4 micrograms of dust per-cubic-metre.
This is of main concern for pregnant women, infants, seniors and those with lung or heart disease.
Northern Health is advising anyone from chronic underlying conditions to avoid outdoor strenuous activity, especially near busy roads or area with heavy traffic, until the advisory is lifted.
If you experience symptoms such as eye or throat irritation, shortness of breath, chest discomfort or coughing, the authority encourages you to check in with your local healthcare provider.
All forms of open-burning are also prohibited until the dust advisory is over, as per the City of Prince George's Clean Air Bylaw.
More information is available on B.C.'s Air Quality website.
The advisory also stretches out to Quesnel, Burns Lake and Smithers.
