The owner of a bad building in the Westgate area has beat the city to the punch.

By the time a contractor hired by the city to level work on a multi-family development at 6713 Westmount Drive had arrived at the site, the owner's contractor had completed the majority of the demolition and clean-up, current planning and development manager Nelson Wight said in a report to council.

Administration considers that the requirements of the remedial action have now been fulfilled and no further action is required at this time," Wight said. "The owner will be billed for work conducted by the city's contractor to finish the job."

An order to demolish the structure was issued in November due to safety concerns and the city hired a contractor to carry out the work starting Jan. 13.
