The new hotel development in downtown Prince George will bear the Delta Hotel and Resorts flag.
The $35 million hotel project is being built adjacent to the Bob Harkins branch of the Prince George Public Library and is, according to the company's press release, the city's first four-star, full-service hotel.
"We are delighted to be bringing Delta's upscale hotel experience to Prince George," said Clint Dahl, spokesperson for property owner River City Hotel Management Corporation.
"Delta's four-star development will bring important new jobs to the city and add to the growing vibrancy of our downtown," said Mayor Shari Green.
The new hotel will have 170 guest rooms, nine extended-stay suites as well as a full-service restaurant, lounge, fitness centre with spa and indoor pool, and meeting and conference space.
"This new hotel will make Delta the market leader in Prince George and will offer travellers the most modern, innovative and thoughtfully-designed hotel in the region," said Ken Green, Delta Hotels and Resorts president and CEO.
Dahl said they chose to go with Delta because of those new design concepts the company is introducing chainwide. The company has nine properties in B.C., with 42 in total across Canada.
Instead of the initially-outlined 12 storeys, the hotel will be six storeys, going wider instead of taller, said Dahl.
When first made public in April 2012, the hotel was announced as part of a high-rise condominium development.
According to Dahl, the condo aspect is the second phase of the project.
"We just want to get going on [the hotel], but there's still some other stuff to do on the condo side of things," he said.
The hotel is slated for a 2015 ribbon cutting, with the hope that it will be open in time for the Canada Winter Games.
"It's a huge impact on our downtown," Dahl added, noting the large amount of private investment and that he sees this development as the first of many coming down the pipe. "That speaks volumes for the investment climate that exists for our downtown now."
