It will be status quo at Pine Valley golf course for the next five years after a city call out for a new golf course manager didn't yield any fresh blood.
The current operator, GNR Property Management was the only one to submit a bid in a request for proposal for an operator for the municipal course.
City council approved the new contract, beginning April 1, on Monday night. Under the agreement, the operator only pays the city a three-per-cent commission if they bring in more than $290,000 in a year.
Last year, sales at Pine Valley never reached that benchmark.
As with the last time the city put the operation of the 18-hole, 3-par course up for grabs, it was hoping to find someone willing to make some capital investments in the property.
The proposal received did not include any capital contributions.
The contractor is expected to maintain the course, but upgrades such as safety netting or putting in a new driving range or major repairs such as replacing the irrigation system would fall to the city.
"The provision of these services by GNR Property Management Ltd. is not anticipated to generate significant expenses for the city, unless certain key components of the facility infrastructure fail and the city decides to replace such failed components," said a report from administrative services general manager Walter Babicz.
Coun. Albert Koehler was the sole vote in opposition to awarding the contract.
He said that after speaking with some Prince George Golf and Curling Club board members, there is potential for combining the two clubs.
"So I strongly suggest that the decision makers of both clubs sit down and have a discussion that could lead to a win-win result for all. That does not mean I'm in favour of getting rid of the green space which is occupied by the Pine Valley golf club," Koehler said, going on to suggest the course be kept as a park.
