People who don't usually ride the bus are being invited to try it out this summer, with the city adding a contest and prizes to the experience.

The City of Prince George is encouraging people who don't usually use transit to explore their community by bus this summer through a new initiative called the Transit Challenge.

The program aims to encourage people who don’t normally take public transit to try visiting a city facility, community event or park by bus, and to complete one or more of the following challenges:

  • Find your comfy spot: Tell the city where you like to sit on the bus and why
  • Window view reflection: What did you see out the window that caught your eye?
  • Spot some art: Share a mural or colourful design you noticed on the bus, at a stop or along the way

Residents can complete the challenge by submitting a written entry or creating a piece of art.

To participate, pick up a challenge form at any of the following locations:

  • Prince George Council of Seniors
  • YMCA, Canfor Leisure Pool
  • Aquatic Centre or City Hall

Forms can also be downloaded from the city’s website.

Completed entries can be submitted at any of the listed locations or emailed to [email protected] by Aug. 1.

Participants who submit a completed form will be entered into a draw for prizes, including:

  • Pool and YMCA passes
  • Transit tickets and UMO cards
  • Visa gift cards
  • Mr. PG shopping bags
  • Sonos Roam 2 smart speaker

The city reported that the program is made possible in part by a BC Healthy Communities Age-friendly Communities grant. The Age-friendly Communities Program is delivered by the BC Healthy Communities Society and funded by the BC Ministry of Health.
