A second Canfor mill in Prince George has been confirmed for a positive COVID-19 case.

Spokesperson Michelle Ward says, earlier this week, the company had its first case of COVID-19 in Canada at the Prince George Sawmill.

Contact tracing was immediately conducted and cleaning protocols were put in place, she says in a statement to PrinceGeorgeMatters.

The employee is now recovering at home and four other exposed employees are in quarantine for 14 days.

Canfor also revealed earlier today (Oct. 30) a contractor working at the Northwood Pulp Mill in Prince George had tested positive.

"Canfor’s top priority is ensuring the health and safety of employees," the company said in a release.

"Since the pandemic began, we have implemented COVID-19 protocols to help protect our employees. Any contractors working on-site are required to have COVID-19 protocols in place that meet our high standards."

As a result of that exposure, eight others exposed are also in quarantine for 14 days.

Northern Health, as of this posting, has 412 COVID-19 cases since March after six new ones were reported today by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

This includes 30 active cases, three deaths, one person in critical care and 379 recoveries.
