It's coming.

You'll want to make sure you have your snow shovels, blowers, snow gear, and block heaters ready as a wicked storm is heading towards Prince George.

Environment Canada is currently calling for snow to begin this evening (Jan. 29) with 2-4 cm expected.

Wednesday (Jan. 30) will be snowing to start, will end later in the morning, but then: prepare yourself.

Heavy snow is expected to begin Wednesday night before intensifying on Thursday (Jan. 31).

"We have snow for the next few days," Carmen Hartt, a meteorologist with Environment Canada says. "There is going to be a period of heavier, more significant snowfall in there. By Thursday morning, we're really going to see that intensify."

She says between Thursday morning and Friday morning is when the dump will fall in Prince George.

"It will taper off to flurries later Friday," she adds. "It's really more of a 24-hour event between Thursday morning and Friday morning."

Currently as of today (Jan. 29), Hartt says snowfall totals are higher, with Thursday again being the largest.

"Fifteen to 25 cm of snow may be possible within that 24-hour period," she says.

Typically in January, Prince George sees 54.6 cm on snow according to Environment Canada, but to date, there's only been 30 mm of precipitation so far.

The cold trend will also continue during the snow, with no actual rain expected afterwards.

There's also another culprit possibly in play: wind.

"It looks like there could be some wind on Thursday," Hartt adds. "So that could also be visibility issues with the snow."

With the heavy snow and possible winds, you'll want to check your flight status before you arrive at the airport to see if your plane is delayed or cancelled.
