A man who allegedly stole a bicycle at gunpoint is now facing six charges.

Crown counsel has approved counts against Jesse Orlando Ferguson, 18, of robbery, robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence.

Prince George RCMP said Ferguson was arrested Saturday morning, just nine minutes after police received a report of the incident in the 1900 block of Strathcona Avenue.

Ferguson allegedly matched the description given by the victim and was seen near Prince George secondary school with a mountain bike. He dropped the bike and tried to escape but was chased down, RCMP said.

With the help of a tracking dog, a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle was found after a brief search, according to police.

He remains in custody pending his next court appearance on Nov. 5.
