Civil servants with the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training won a provincial award on Monday for their work in the aftermath of the Babine Forest Products fire last year.
The group of employees won a Premier's Award for cross-government integration for their work in partnering with the Village of Burns Lake and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako after the fire on Jan. 20, 2012 killed two people and destroyed the mill. They were honoured for focusing on economic development opportunities after the explosion, helping with worker re-training and ensuring the continuity of community services.
More than 300 provincial government employees in the interior and north regions were recognized Monday by Premier Christy Clark. Awards were handed out in categories ranging from leadership to organizational excellence to innovation.
