Northern Health was home to 354 active cases of COVID-19, according to B.C. Centre for Disease Control numbers released Wednesday, down by 90 from the day before.
The drop came despite 53 new cases being reported for the region. As well, one more death was reported bringing the total in Northern Health since the pandemic broke out to 91.
Hospitalizations stood at 10, down four from Tuesday, and eight of them were in intensive care, down two.
At 15.7 per 100 tests as of Tuesday, Northern Health's positivity rate continued to be the highest in the province and more than double the 6.1 per cent average for B.C. as a whole.
Active cases also declined province-wide and stood at 4,305, down 88 from Tuesday. However, six more deaths were reported, raising the running total on that front to 1,269.
As well, 469 new cases were reported as the daily number continued to flatline. As of Tuesday, the seven-day moving average was 442.1, after bottoming out at 420.1 on Feb. 4.
Fraser Health remained home to the most active cases at 1,863, followed by Interior Health at 912, Vancouver Coastal at 900, Northern Health at 354, Vancouver Island at 269 and seven patients from outside Canada.
In a joint statement, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix urged the public to avoid social gatherings and traveling as the Family Day long weekend nears.
"This weekend is the weekend to stay home - to show your family and friends you care by not giving COVID-19 the opportunity to spread....By choosing small and safe for you and everyone around you, we can slow the virus and keep our positive momentum going."
