Meierhofer adds grit to musical lineup

Britt Meierhofer, fresh from a countrywide summer tour, has new songs to sing Monday night at Nancy O’s.

After racking up 20,000 kilometres on her van over the summer, performing 35 shows across the country and reaching as far as Charlottetown, Britt Meierhofer was inspired to, in her own words, "puke out" a whole lot of new songs this winter.

"There's some new grit in my set so I'm switching from my acoustic guitar to my electric," said Meierhofer, who's playing at Nancy O's under her stage name Britt A.M. on Monday at 8:30 p.m.

Meierhofer will be joined on stage by Sober Becky, one of her favourite local artists, and special guest Greg Rekus from Winnipeg. Each plays high-energy acoustic punk.

"It'll be a really fun show," said Meierhofer.

When Meierhofer, who is a Thursday regular at Twisted Cork, returned from her "epic tour" she was happy to be back to her hometown routine.

"I was stoked to get back into playing my gigs here and playing with my band Crones," said Meierhofer. "I guess the inspiration of being so mobile in the summer and then being socked in by the winter weather was a good platform for writing."

As Meierhofer performs solo at times but wants more of a robust sound, she builds her music right in front of her audience.

"I have a loop pedal and some effects pedals on my guitar so I flesh out songs and build them layer by layer live on stage," said Meierhofer.

Cover charge is $5 at Nancy O's, 1261 Third Ave. Showtime is Monday at 8:30 p.m.
