Prince George boxers Ben Ruttan and Thunder Innis punched their way to championship titles at the Alberta Golden Gloves tournament in Lacombe on Sunday.

Both fighters represent Inner City Boxing PG.

The 17-year-old Ruttan took on Deshawn Favel-Howse of Lac La Biche, Alta., and dominated the match. Despite the fact it was Ruttan’s first bout in four months, he showed no ring rust and was awarded the victory when the referee stopped the fight.

Innis, 16, faced Bennett Cressman of Regina and won by unanimous decision. Innis made his ring debut about a year ago and now has four major titles to his credit — the Alberta Golden Gloves, the Alberta Silver Gloves, the Alberta Sub-Novice and the BC Bronze Gloves.

Josh Greenwood of Inner City also fought in Lacombe on the weekend. The 18-year-old squared off against Ian Gould of Red Deer, Alta., and lost by a split decision.
