This concert Beggs for attention.

Kim Beggs has long been one of northern Canada's musical treasures. She is coming south - yes, south - to the Prince George area to show her latest glints of gold. Said Little Sparrow is her new album so she's heading out from her Yukon home to visit more than 40 communities across Western and Central Canada.

For her nearest appearance here in the Cariboo, she will be at the Sunset Theatre in Wells on Nov. 13.

According to her musical history, Beggs has successfully released seven albums in the past 13 years - five solo and two as part of The Blue Warblers with Natalie Edelson - which have garnered her six Western Canadian Music Award nominations, three Canadian Folk Music Award nominations and the opportunity to share the stage and tour with the likes of Buffy St Marie, Penny Lang, Chris Jagger, Corin Raymond, Jonathan Byrd, Oh Susanna, Kim Barlow, Ivan Coyote, Anne Louise Genest and many more.

Kim has performed at the Edmonton Folk Festival, Calgary Folk Festival, Blue Skies and Lunenburg festivals as well as at Trafalgar Square in London for Canada Day.

She calls her style "folk-roots-oldtime-country-americana" music, often infused with "dark tales of northern life."

"I was a late bloomer to begin with and while at times I ponder about what would have happened if I started in the music biz when I was 20, I might not have survived and I don't think I would have had the same things to say. I needed to grow up first," said Beggs.

When fans purchase the physical form of Said Little Sparrow they also receive a 42-page booklet curated by Kim including chords, lyrics, family photos, and a story for almost every song.

"I continue to be as inspired as ever with music," she said. "The songs on Said Little Sparrow were written in a relatively short period of time and then honed over a longer period of time including during the recording process. Producing this album was a challenging but wonderful learning curve for me. Though I do look forward to making future records with other producers I admire, I am also interested in producing records and songs for emerging artists."

Kim will be accompanied on this tour by Marcel Desilets (otherwise known as Pots And Pans) on backing vocals, banjo and dobro.

Tickets are $15 at door or $12 in advance (get them online at www.imarts.com under the Events heading or visit the ticket desk at Island Mountain Arts in Wells).
