World women's curling schedule released

As the host team of the 2020 World Women’s Curling Championship, Canada will no doubt feel the love from the fans that will pack the stands at CN Centre for the nine day tournament, March 14-22.

Now that the tournament schedule has been released, they’ll know when the home team will be in action on the ice.

Canada opens the 13-team championship against Scotland on Saturday, March 14 in Draw 2, which starts at 7 p.m.

That comes after the opening draw games at 2 p.m. which pit Denmark against Germany, Sweden against the Czech Republic, Russia against the United States, and Korea against Japan.

Canada returns to the rink for two games on Sunday, March 15, facing Korea at 9 a.m. and Japan at 7 p.m. The following day Canada will play Russia t 2 p.m. and China at 7 p.m. Then on Tuesday, March 17 the hosts will play the U.S. at 2 p.m. and Italy at 7 p.m.

The round-robin schedule has Canada playing Germany on Wednesday, March 18 at 2 p.m. Canada has two games on Thursday, March 19, first against the Czech Republic at 9 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. clash with Sweden. On Friday, March 20 Canada opens the day at 9 a.m. against Denmark, then takes on Switzerland at 7 p.m.

Tickets for all the games are available at the CN Centre ticket office or through the tournament website www.curling.ca/2020worldwomen.

Switzerland won the title last year and also brought home the world championship in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Canada last won in 2018 with Jennifer Jones as the skip. That came on the heels of Rachel Homan’s 2017 championship win.

This year’s Canadian champions will be determined at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Feb. 15-23 in Moose Jaw, Sask.
