With striker Tofa Fakunle leading the charge, the UNBC Timberwolves broke out of their scoring slump Sunday at North Cariboo Field.
They blanked the UBC-Okanagan Heat 3-0 to end a three-game CIS Canada West men's soccer winless skid.
Fakunle scored twice and set up the other UNBC goal from Cheona Edzerza.
All of the scoring came in the first half. Fakunle picked up his third of the season, booting in a rebound 6:50 into the game after Edzerza's initial shot was stopped by Heat goalie Mitch McCaw.
Then at the 18-minute mark, Fakunle sent Edzerza into the clear and the Prince George youth soccer product pocketed his second goal of the season to give the T-wolves a 2-0 lead.
Fakunle capped the scoring 44:42 in, taking a feed from Francesco Bartolillo before lifting a high shot past McCaw from 15 yards out.
The win over the third-place Heat (4-4-2) improved the T-wolves' record in the Pacific Division standings to 3-8-1 and moved UNBC into a fifth-place tie with Thompson Rivers, each with 10 points. TRU (3-6-1) has two games in hand over the T-wolves, who have a bye this weekend.
Goalie Mitch MacFarlane blocked three Heat shots to earn his first shutout of the season Sunday.
UBC-Okanagan won Saturday's game against the T-wolves 2-0.
Spencer Young and Corbin Beauchemin were the Heat goalscorers. McCaw posted a four-save shutout, his third of the season.
The UNBC women suffered two road losses on the weekend to drop to 0-8-0 on the season. The T-wolves lost to the Fraser Valley Cascades 6-0 Friday night in Abbotsford, then were defeated 4-0 by the top-ranked Trinity Western Spartans in Langley on Saturday.
