To get to the gold-medal match at the Canadian elite boxing championships in Quebec City, the 27-year-old from Prince George had to find a way to defeat the Chechen Wolf.
Arthur Biyarslanov of Toronto, his semifinal opponent Friday, was the reigning Pan Am Games champion and was part of Canada’s 2016 Olympic team.
That national team experience came in handy for Biyarslanov. He defeated Seehra in the first round when the referee stopped the fight.
In the 64-kilogram class, Biyarslanov went on to win the gold medal Saturday with a 3-0 decision over Akdeniz Mazlum of Quebec.
Seehra won his opening match 3-0 Thursday over Thomas Tordoff of Grande Prairie, Alta., which guaranteed bronze for Seehra, an Inner City Boxing Club member who now lives in Nanaimo. Biyarslanov drew an opening-round bye into the semifinals.
