The Prince George Polars lived up the hype.

They were among the top-10 triple-A girls volleyball teams in the province when the rankings came out earlier this week and on Saturday they showed they deserve to be on that list at the Kelly Road senior girls tournament.

The Polars, ranked No. 9 in B.C., swept the College Heights Cougars in straight sets in the championship match, winning 25-17, 25-19.

The host Kelly Road Roadrunners didn’t leave the courts empty-handed, they won the bronze-medal match, also in two sets, defeating the D.P. Todd Trojans 25-21, 25-19 earlier Saturday.

In the semifinal round, the Polars topped the Roadrunners 2-0 (25-16, 29-27), while College Heights eliminated the Trojans from title contention. Scores from that semifinal match were unavailable.
