O'Dine ninth, Bichon 47th in World Cup snowboardcross race

Snowboardcross racer Meryeta O'Dine has regained her top-10 world status. The 22-year-old from Prince George posted a ninth-place finish Saturday at a World Cup race in Cervinia, Italy, finishing third in the women's small final.

The 22-year-old from Prince George posted a ninth-place finish Saturday at a World Cup race in Cervinia, Italy, finishing third in the women's small final.
Michela Moioli of Italy won the event, while Chloe Trespeuch of France and Sofia Belingheri took silver and bronze respectively. Audrey McManiman of Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare, Que., was 20th and Carle Brenneman of Vancouver finished 22nd.
O'dine currently ranks 13th in the world standings. She started the World Cup tour with a 17th-place finish two weekends ago in Montafon, Austria, picking up where she left off in February, when she paced seventh at a World Cup race in Feldberg, Germany.
In the men's race Saturday, 21-year-old Evan Bichon of Prince George placed 47th. 
Lorenzo Sommariva of Italy captured gold, sharing the podium with silver medalist Emanuel Perethoner of Italy and Merlin Surget of France, who won bronze. 
Eliot Grondin of Ste-Marie, Que., competing in his first World Cup big final, finished sixth. Kevin Hill of Vernon was 33rd and Liam Moffatt of Truro, N.S., was  38th.
Bichon began the World Cup season with a 44th-place result in Montafon. One other Prince George athlete on the World Cup tour, 18-year-old Colby Graham, placed 59th in Montafon.
The national team is back on Canadian soil in North Vancouver where they will train for the next World Cup races, Jan. 24-26 at Big White near Kelowna. Also upcoming are World Cup events in Sierra Nevada, Spain (March 6-7) and Veysonnaz, Switzerland (March 15).
