The road to gold begins to today for Prince George athletes entered in the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.
Jericko Prince, 19, Tyson Ghostkeeper, 19, and Nicholas Potskin, 20, will be sporting Team B.C. jerseys in male softball, starting today at 11 a.m. (PT) against Alberta.
The boys from B.C. also play New Brunswick today at 1 p.m. (PT). On Sunday they face Prince Edward Island at noon (PT), followed by a game at 5 p.m. against host Manitoba. On Monday, B.C. takes on New Brunswick at 9 a.m. and Newfoundland/Labrador at 4 p.m.
Sixteen-year-old Rebecca Landry, who played for the Duchess Park Condors senior basketball team, is on medal quest this week playing for B.C. The team opens its tournament today at 8:45 a.m. (PT) against Newfoundland/Labrador. On Sunday they play New Brunswick at 11 a.m.
Callie Swan will be competing in her second Canada Games. The 19-year-old was a short track speed skater in the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George. This year she's entered in the Summer Games in cycling. The cycling events are scheduled for the second week of the Games, starting Tuesday, Aug. 8 with the individual time trial.
Cody Boulding, 17, a Duchess Park volleyball player, is on the B.C. boys team which opens its Canada Games tournament on Monday, Aug. 7 with a game against Yukon.
Brock Terlesky of Quesnel, 22, is entered in Special Olympics athletics, which starts Monday. Hayley Florell of Mackenzie, 17, is competing in wrestling, scheduled for the second week of the Games.
