Fifth place is still a possibility for two Prince George teams playing today in high school provincial volleyball championships.
At the triple-A girls provincial volleyball championship in Langley, the Duchess Park Condors lost a three-set playoff (25-20, 25-19, 25-21) Friday to Carihi. The Condors got there by winning an epic 3-2 (23-25, 26-24, 27-29, 25-23, 15-9) battle earlier Friday against South Kamloops in the round of 16 playoffs.
Duchess Park now faces Vernon today at 12:15 p.m. The winner will play for fifth place at 2:45 p.m. against the winner of the Okanagan Mission-R.A McMath match.
The Condors went 1-2 in pool play Thursday. After an opening 2-0 (25-23, 27-25) loss to Vernon they beat Charles Hays 2-0 (25-19, 25-14) but lost their third match 2-1 (26-24, 10-25, 15-9) to W.L. Seaton.
The Prince George Polars took a 1-2 record onto the court this morning against R.A. McMath and lost 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 19-25, 25-18) and dropped into the placement bracket. PGSS then was due to face Charles in a playoff Friday night but the Prince Rupert team defaulted, and the Polars advanced to the ninth-10th-place game today at 1:30 a.m.
On Thursday, the Polars lost their first two matches in straight sets to Okanagan Mission, 25-22, 25-19, and Dawson Creek, 25-15, 25-20., then topped Salish 2-0 (25-12, 25-7).
Menwhile, at the double-A boys provincial championship, also in Langley, the College Heights Cougars will play for fifth place against Surrey Christian, today at 9:45 a.m. The North Central zone-champion Cougars swept Pacific Academy 2-0 (25-21, 25-23) in a placement bracket playoff Friday afternoon.
The Cougars lost 3-1 (25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 25-14) in the quarterfinal round Thursday night to George Elliot. Earlier Thursday, College Heights took out the Duchess Park Condors, beating their crosstown rivals 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-15) on the court at Langley Events Centre.
Duchess Park will play for ninth place today at 9:45 a.m. against Langley Fundamental after the Condors defeated W.L. Seaton 2-1 (23-25, 25-17, 15-9) on Friday.
At the single-A girls tournament in Castlegar, the Cedars Christian Eagles went 0-3 in pool play and won their placement playoff against Ebenezer Friday afternoon (scores not available) to advance against Duncan Christian in an 8:30 a.m. match today. The winner moves on to the ninth-place game at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of the Vancouver Christian-Aberdeen Hall playoff.
In Vernon, the 14th-ranked Kelly Road Roadrunners and 16th-ranked D.P. Todd Trojans were playing at the 20-team double-A girls provincial championship. Results were not available on the championship website.
