Condors finish fifth in B.C., best-ever for P.G. boys soccer team

In the 24 years B.C. high schools have been competing for boys soccer provincial championships, not once has a Prince George team finished as well as the Duchess Park Condors did Wednesday.

The Duchess Park Condors boys soccer team finished fifth Wednesday at the B.C. Secondary School Sports provincial double-a championship in Burnaby.

In the 24 years B.C. high schools have been competing for boys soccer provincial championships, not once has a Prince George team finished as well as the Duchess Park Condors did Wednesday.
They defeated the Archbishop Carney Stars of Port Coquitlam 2-0 Wednesday in Burnaby to place fifth at the 16-team double-A tournament. Tyler Macsemniuk and Colburn Pearce scored for the Condors. Anders Rolufs earned the shutout.
Led by Macsemniuk, a tournament all-star, the Condors won four of their five games. They outscored their opponents a combined 19-2. Macsemniuk, Anthony Preston, Graeme Lewis, Julian Daduica, Connor Lewis were game stars for the Condors in the tournament.
Duchess Park opened the tournament with a pair of wins Monday - 4-0 win over Carihi and a 10-0 triumph over Richmond. On Tuesday, the Condors lost 1-0 to Langley Fundamental and rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Pitt Meadows.
Prior to this year, the D.P. Todd Trojans' eighth-place finish was the best a Prince George team had ever done in the boys provincial championship, which started in 1993.
The other Condor team members are: Matt Macsemniuk, Matt Kuc, Everett Douglas, Peter Kemp,Danny Maloney, Ben Dyck, Abou Cisse, Mitch Ochieng, Anders Rolufs and Cecil Macrae.
Rob Lewis and Tony Preston coached the team.
In the gold-medal game Wednesday, St. Michaels of Victoria defeated Bodwell of North Vancouver 3-1. Langley Fundamental captured the bronze medal with a 1-0 shootout win over W.L. Seaton of  Vernon.
