College Heights drops to placement bracket

High school girls volleyball championship hoes still alive for Duchess Park Condors

The College Heights Cougars won't be coming home with a double-A boys provincial volleyball championship crown.

The Cougars lost 3-1 (25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 25-14) to the George Elliot Coyotes Thursday night at the 16-team tournament in Langley.

College Heights will play Pacific Academy today at 2:15 p.m. for the right to play in the fifth-place match Saturday at 9:45 a.m. The College Heights-Pacific Academy loser will play for seventh place.

Earlier Thursday, the North Central zone-champion Cougars took out the Duchess Park Condors, beating their crosstown rivals 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-15) on the court at Langley Events Centre.

The Condors dropped to the consolation side and defeated Alpha 2-0 (25-11, 25-20) earlier today. Duchess Park is now on the court against W.L. Seaton. The winner of that match advances to the ninth-place playoff Saturday at 9:45 a.m. against the winner of the Langley Fundamental-Hugh McRoberts match.

At the triple-A girls provincial, also in Langley, the Duchess Park Condors are locked in a playoff battle with South Kamloops, a match that started at 1 p.m. A win will send the Conders to the quarterfinal round against the Carihi-Salish winner . That quarterfinal will be played at 5 p.m.

The Condors went 1-2 in pool play Thursday. After a an opening 2-0 (25-23, 27-25) loss to Vernon they beat Charles Hays 2-0 (25-19, 25-14) but lost their third match 2-1 (26-24, 10-25, 15-9) to W.L. Seaton.

 The Prince George Polars took a 1-2 record onto the court this morning against R.A. McMath and lost 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 19-25, 25-18) and dropped into the placement bracket. PGSS will meet Charles Hays today at 6 p.m. The winner will face the Crofton House-Hugh McRoberts winner Saturday at 9 a.m. for the right to play in the ninth-and-10-place game Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

On Thursday, the Polars lost their first two matches in straight sets to Okanagan Mission, 25-22, 25-19, and Dawson Creek, 25-15, 25-20., then topped Salish 2-0 (25-12, 25-7).

At the single-A girls tournament in Castlegar, the Cedars Christian Eagles went 0-3 in pool play and were playing a placement bracket playoff against Ebenezer, which started at 2:45 p.m.

The Eagles lost all three pool play matches in straight sets, 25-11, 31-29 to Aberdeen Hall, 25-20, 25-15 to Vancouver Christian and 25-20, 25-17 to Southpointe Academy.

At the 20-team double-A girls championship in Vernon, the 14th-ranked Kelly Road Roadrunners and 16th-ranked D.P. Todd Trojans began playing for the B.C. title on Thursday. Results were not available on the championship website.
