Beaudry, Tandy finish 11th in World Cup relay

Emily Dickson of Burns Lake races to an 11th-place finish in the junior women's sprint Saturday in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

Canada's women's 4 X 6-kilometre relay team, which includes Caledonia Nordic Ski Club members from Prince George – Sarah Beaudry and Megan Tandy – finished 11th out of 23 teams Sunday at a World Cup event in Pokljuka, Slovenia.
Canada stopped the clock in one hour 15 minutes four seconds, 3:33 off the winning pace set by Germany (Vanessa Hinz, Franzeska Hildebrand, Maren Hammerschmidt, Laura Dahlmeier).
France took silver and Ukraine claimed bronze.
Beaudry skied the lead leg and missed two of her 20 targets. She handed off to Rosanna Crawford, who had one miss. Tandy shot clean while completing the third leg and Julia Ransom completed the anchor leg, missing just one standing target.
In the men's 4 X 7.5km relay Sunday, Canada's team of Scott and Christian Gow, Brendan Green and Nathan Smith finished 10th out of 24 teams. They were 1:44 behind France (Jean Guilleaume Beatrix, Quinten Fillion Mailley, Simon Desthieux, Martin Fourcade), who won gold in 1:11:56. Russia and Germany took silver and gold respectively.
Ransom, 23, a native of Penticton, was the top Canadian in the women's 7.5km sprint Friday, placing 34th, 1:32.8 behind Dahlmeier, the gold medalist. Tandy finished 49th, 1:58.5 off the winning pace, while Crawford was 58th and just made the top-60 to qualify for Saturday's 10km pursuit, The 22-year-old ended up 75th, 2:58.2 off the pace.
Dahlmeier also won the pursuit. Ransom was 34th (2:33.5 behind), Crawford was 49th (4:06.4) and Tandy did not finish.
Scott Gow of Calgary was the top Canadian in the men's 10km sprint, placing a personal-best 23rd, 1:17.7 behind winner Fourcade. His younger brother Christian Gow was 33rd (1:30.9). Green, a native of Hay River, N.W.T. was 52nd (1:55.6), while Macx Davies of Canmore was 80th.
In Saturday's 12.5km pursuit, Christian Gow picked up two positions to finish 31st, Scott Gow ended up 48th and Green was 57th.
The World Cup tour moves on to Nove Mesto, Czech Republic this week. The men's sprint is on Thursday and the women's sprint on Friday. The pursuits and mass start races are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
At the IBU junior event Saturday in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, Burns Lake native Emily Dickson went 10-for-10 on the shooting range and finished 11th in the junior women's 7.5km sprint, her first race of the season. She finished 7:57 behind gold medalist Julia Simon of France. Dickson, 20, a member of the Caledonia club, was 38th Sunday in the 12.5km individual race.
Meanwhile, at the IBU Cup event in Ridnaun-Val Ridanna, Italy, Matt Neumann of Prince George placed 75th in the men's sprint race Saturday and did not qualify for the pursuit. On Friday, Neumann teamed up with Emma Lunder of Vernon, Erin Yungblut of Wroexter, Ont., and Pearce Hanna of Edmonton to help Canada finish 10th in the mixed relay.
Lunder was 15th in the sprint and pursuit races.
