They just missed a medal.
For Sarah Beaudry of Prince George and Carsen Campbell of Prince Edward Island, 13.2 seconds was all that separated the Canadians from a bronze medal Sunday in the IBU Cup biathlon single mixed relay in Sjusjoen, Norway.
That’s how close they came to arriving at the finish at the same time as the third-place Austrians (Katharina Innhoffer and David Komatz) in the 23-team race.
Julia Simon and Antonin Guigonnat of France won gold in 37:33.1, followed by the silver medalists from Sweden (Elisabeth Hoegberg and Tobias Arwidson), who were 36.7 seconds behind. The Austrians were 57.7 seconds away from gold.
Beaudry, a Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member, and Campbell finished 1:10.9 behind the winning pace. Beaudry has three misses at 20 targets wile Campbell missed just two.
In the women’s 7.5-kilometre sprint on Saturday the 23-year-old Beaudry missed just one target in two shooting bouts, placing 23rd out of 99 biathletes. She finished 49th in Thursday’s sprint.
Campbell was 35th in the men’s 10 km sprint Thursday and placed 76th on Saturday.
The IBU Cup circuit shifts to Lenzerheide, Switzerland for races Dec. 8-10. Canada will send its full national B team, including Megan Tandy of Prince George.
