For the third time in his still-young career, northern B.C.'s primo Latino is up for the top trophy in all of music.

Alex Cuba was announced as a Grammy Award nominee once again, in the Best Latin Pop Album category. He was a nominee in this division in 2011 for his eponymous CD, then again in 2016 for his album Healer. This time, the album is titled Lo nico Constante.

He is also the recipient of six past nominations at the Latin Grammy Awards - an all-Spanish cousin of the main Grammy Awards - winning on four of those occasions.

He was also a principal collaborator on Nelly Furtado's smash-selling album Mi Plan which was certified platinum, named by Nielson Soundscan as the top-selling Latin pop album of 2009, and also won its own Latin Grammy.

The expatriate Cuban who now lives in Smithers is, by virtue of these and many other career highlights, one of the leading Spanish-language music figures in the world.

Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar and Bruno Mars lead the nomination count for the 2018 Grammy Awards with, respectively, eight, seven and six nods apiece.

Cuba's co-nominees are Juanes, La Santa Cecilia, Natalia Lafourcade, and Shakira.

The Grammys will be handed out on Jan. 28 during a star-studded live event from Madison Square Garden in New York City, broadcast live on CBS.
