Given the state of BC's forestry industry, Mr. PG seems an increasingly antiquated mascot to represent the community. We aren't really a logging town the way we once were. I don't suppose anyone on city council has considered that we might simply retire the old guy? It's a tacky relic of a bygone era.

So The Citizen decides to start running Letters to the Editor again... and kicks it off with an unhinged rant from someone in Lillooet who wants to model Canada's justice system on that of Saudi Arabia. Based on the comments below, I guess this is your core audience now. Print media can't die fast enough.

@BGeez re: dreams and schemes
Placing the CN Centre, which seats 6000, in the centre of our downtown would be a logistical nightmare. There is too little parking already - it can be a challenge to find a spot just to visit the farmer's market. You'd need to flatten a few city blocks and turn them into parking spaces to even consider such a thing. That's also the reason the casino was built elsewhere. The mass exodus from a concert or (to a lesser extent) Cougars game already creates considerable congestion, even with nearby Ospika and Foothills to funnel traffic away. I'm no city planner, but this would obviously not have worked for PG. The cities you compare us to are much larger and have more functional infrastructure to support such projects in their down towns.

Huge surprise to see that all the racist pearl-clutchers are present and accounted for.

I suppose we are all entitled to our opinions on the Charter and whether it is working for Canadians. Fine. You know what isn't in question? The fact that it is a foundational part of our code of laws that isn't going anywhere anytime soon. So while I agree that 40% of the municipal budget spent on 'public safety' is unsustainable, I suppose I arrive at a more practical conclusion than "let's suspend Canadians' foundational legal rights and let authoritarianism reign," since that is truly the extent to which any ideas are offered in this silly rant of an op ed. Perhaps we might consider finding more sensible ways of spending that money that actually address the roots of the problem?

Perhaps the Citizen should independently do a little investigative journalism to assess the relevant pros and cons of building such a significant project in our backyard. What would be the supposed economic benefits for PG and northern British Columbians? What are the environmental concerns, particularly given its proposed proximity to a large body of water? Is it in our best interests allowing a Chinese owned corporation to gain a foothold in BC LNG, considering the current geopolitical landscape?

Hilarious to read all the comments from those too dim to realize they are just splitting the conservative vote and ensuring another NDP victory.

We currently have energy surpluses in this province which are projected to continue for at least another decade, and Site C will also be operational long before 2035.... so I think the fear may be a little misplaced.

"The question is why did it take the city so long to deal with this issue"
How has the issue been dealt with, pray tell? You turn on the lights, the roaches scatter. Now, a couple years later, here were are, repeating the same futile actions that we saw when Moccasin Flats was the hot topic. Now there are two camps. Maybe next year we will have three. Apparently, you are relieved to see that this one is being scuttled (for the time being) just as the other one was before, to no effect. The problem is this: the people remain. This action does not amount to lasting change. There are no laws that would allow for forcibly relocating the people who populate these camps, (to jails, death camps, or whatever it is you would deem appropriate). It might feel satisfying to see the camp removed - I fully agree that it is a huge eyesore and reflects badly on the community. However, it accomplishes nothing in the grand scheme of things. You must deal with this problem humanely to achieve anything

This city always votes conservative. Hardly a "blue wave" if you get the same result as every other election in recent memory. Thanks to the "Citizen" for staying "impartial" as always *eyeroll*
