The College of New Caledonia Students' Union hosted the 4th Annual Diwali Celebration at Prince George Civic Centre on Friday night. The hundreds of guests were treated to dinner, entertainment, and a dj and dance as part of the evening's festivities. Diwali is a five-day festival of lights, and is a major Hindu festival celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, Punjabis, Gujaratis, Jains, Buddhists, Tamils, Nepalis, Sri Lankans, and East Indians all around the world. The festival is widely associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity. Rows of lamps called deepavali are lit inside and outside homes and buildings during the festival and are meant to represent the triumph of light over dark and the power of good over evil.
