After the opening ceremony of the 2019 B.C. Minor Baseball double-A provincial championships on Thursday evening at Nechako Park, the teams got to let loose a little with a home run derby. One player from each of the twelve teams got their turn at bat and had two minutes, and one time-out, to try and hit as many out of the park as they could. At the end of the preliminary round the two players with the most home runs would go to the final round and those players were Cowichan Valley Mustangs player Jace Hamm who hit 10 homers, and Prince George Jepson Petroleum Knights player Brenden Gaboury who hit last and put 11 over the fence. In the final round Hamm went first and matched his preliminary round total crushing 10 home runs. Gaboury was unable to match his own preliminary round score and had to settle with 4 home runs.
