The 10th Annual Ethan Blacker Memorial Peewee Tournament took place this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Kin 2 and CN Centre. The House Level 1 championship game was held Sunday afternoon in Kin 2 that featured the Houston/Burns Lake Flyers and the Crossfit Northern Ice Cobras. The Flyers were victorious hoisting the championship trophy after defeating the Cobras by a score of 6-1. Houston/Burns Lake were undefeated in the tournament winning their round-robin games by scores of 8-1, 5-2, and 7-6. The House Level 2 championship game was held Sunday evening in Kin 2 that featured the Fraser Lake Hawks and the PPWC Red Demons. The Hawks took the game defeating the Red Demons by a score of 8-3 to claim their title. Fraser Lake was also undefeated on the weekend after winning their round-robin games by scores of 9-4, 7-0, and 12-5. It is the 10th year of the annual peewee house hockey tournament that honours Ethan Blacker who passed away in 2009 and his family keeps his memory alive by sponsoring this tournament every year. Prince George welcomed players and coaches from Quesnel, Mackenzie, Fraser Lake, Burns Lake, and Houston who make the trip to take on local teams. In total nearly 300 players and team personnel, plus their families in attendance, will help keep Ethan’s memory alive during the weekend’s festivities. Also taking place this weekend was the Fill the Net Food Drive. Teams, players, parents, and fans were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the rink. A total of 270 pounds of food was collected which was then donated to the Salvation Army Food Bank in Ethan’s name.
