Wednesday, Sept. 28 is Raise a Reader Day, an annual initiative taken on by 27 newspapers across the country, including the Prince George Citizen, to raise money for family literacy programs. Since the national launch, the program has raised more than $17 million to educate Canadians about literacy issues and raise awareness for how improved literacy levels have a positive impact on the country's economy and social well-being. The money raised in Prince George will support literacy programs in the community.
