The outdoor space of the pediatric unit at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. was officially opened Wednesday morning for all hospitalized children to enjoy.

It took three years of fundraising for almost $200,000 to build the play area.

To keep children safe there is a nurse-call button and the floor is made of special rubber tiles to prevent injury. There are glass panels around the deck and an automatic door and ramp wide enough to accommodate a bed allows access to the deck.
