A fire hydrant was hit by a pick up at the Prince George Mohawk on the Hart Highway Wednesday at around noon.

The man (who wishes to remain anonymous) lost control of his vehicle as he entered the gas station. When he realized he was heading for the propane tanks situated near the entrance of the station, he jerked his steering wheel and aimed for what he thought was a snow bank and hit the fire hydrant.

City workers were at the scene. Accessing the hydrant's shut off valve posed a problem with snow and ice covering it.

About 40 minutes later the valve was shut off and the water began to drain. At this time there is no report of damage by Mohawk station or A&W restaurant staff.
