When the Canadian Government approved the deployment of Canadian Armed Forces members in Iraq, they were to be behind the front lines. What constitutes behind the front lines?
Years ago I was a cadet in the '60s and I attended cadet camp which was held at Sarcee Barracks in Calgary. It was a rifle shooting course. At that time we used the old 303 British Lee Enfield. We shot targets up to a thousand yards which is fairly close to a kilometre. The target bullseye was a foot or a third of a metre in diameter. Some of the cadets that were there would hit the bullseye about 70 per cent of the time.
With the changes in weaponry and sights and ammo since the sixties, this would improve the average shooters success at hitting the target.
If someone were to ask me what I considered as to being behind the front lines, I would have to say at least a kilometre.
