Scientists divided on safety of genetically modified foods

Professor Whitcombe, how is it possible someone who sees himself well educated would write a narrow article supporting genetically modified organisms (GMO's) when the controversial and unproven science behind GMO's remains an openly heated discussion

Professor Whitcombe, how is it possible someone who sees himself well educated would write a narrow article supporting genetically modified organisms (GMO's) when the controversial and unproven science behind GMO's remains an openly heated discussion by many experts with whole countries banning GMO products? If you wish to be a laboratory experiment, go for it! There may be a Darwinian award for that. However, very few reasonable people who want to live a healthier life, enjoying their families and friends consider eating genetically modified foods anything except wrong. In fact the need for clear food labelling is being pushed in many countries including Canada. Can all of those people be wrong? There have been too many scientifically-supported failures regarding food and water products so basic to life that have been proven wrong several years later after many painful deaths. Do you not remember writing about phosphoric acid a few weeks back, proving that fact? Despite people living longer, our medical system is increasingly overloaded with treating unhealthy people, who live longer and die more painfully (pancreatic cancer). There are documented increases over the last 30 years in neurological diseases, dementia, Alzheimer's, increasing in older and younger people due to a combination of many factors creating a hidden epidemic. Some of the combined and inclusive factors are defined and include updated research indicating GMO's, fluoridated drinking water, hydrogenated oils, tobacco smoke, second-hand smoke, environmental pollutants, leaded gasoline, poor air quality, cosmetic pesticides, phthalates, plastics, cadmium and lead, asbestos, irradiated and nutritionally depleted foods containing chemicals and additives known to cause cancer and other diseases are making us sicker. The combined effect of these improved foods and products are causing an increase in neurological deaths (Dr. Victor Marchione, chief scientific advisor, Bel Marra doctors, HealtheTalk - [email protected]). Professor, there are significant differences between cross pollinating of plants of the same species to improve productivity and plant disease resistances, genetically modified foods, transgenic plants, cisgenic plants and microbes (bacteria) used to produce large quantities of genetically modified foods. Apparently this process can also occur in our stomach after we eat the foods due to the acids our body uses to digest healthy foods. Professor, once again, please check your facts regarding the science behind your opinions.

You are in a position to influence many, please do not continue to abuse that privilege.
