More than two-thirds of Prince George respondents to a Citizen online poll believe the Prince George Playhouse should be demolished.

The poll asked: What do you think city council should do with the Playhouse? The poll ran on The Citizen’s website from June 23 to July 12.

The most common response (417 respondents, representing 42 per cent) said to demolish it and sell the land to pay for a new arts centre while another 28 per cent (275 respondents) said to demolish it but no new arts centre. Meanwhile, 19 per cent (195 respondents) urged city council to patch it up until a new arts centre is built and 11 per cent (113 respondents) said to spend as much as it takes to restore the Playhouse.

A total of 1,000 confirmed local votes were cast in the poll. This poll had a 3.1 per cent margin of error, 19 times out of 20.

This was a random poll, meaning the poll question appeared only to random visitors of The Citizen’s website. The Citizen's polling system built into its new website allows for the capture of relevant local data and gives us the ability to detect and prevent fraudulent votes, as well as detect and prevent robots and filter out non-local and duplicate votes.
