To the red pick-up truck that spun out on Hwy 16 west on Sunday at 4:17 p.m. - get off the highway.
The roads were good and clear, traffic was going smoothly, when you decided to pass the cars ahead of you on a snow-covered passing lane. You spun out and came into my lane. You would have killed me in my little Jeep with your big truck's front axle if I hadn't reacted the way I did.
I'm not a young chick with an L on the bumper. I drive about 4, 000 km on this highway every month. I come across a suicidal/homicidal maniac once in a while. If you want to kill yourself, do this on your own time and on a side road. Do not do this in front of a bunch of good people who only try to get from point A to point B on a Sunday afternoon. You would have gotten out alive, the traffic would have stopped for nine hours until the fire-department cut me out of my little car, the coroner pronounced me dead and the RCMP conducted their investigation.
In the last few years I have lost seven people I knew on this highway. When the snow goes, count the crosses alongside the road. I'm asking for this highway to have double lanes for a long time, but not that people like you can speed the last 10 kilometres before Prince George to get there three minutes earlier. If you can't drive in winter conditions, then wait for summer or move south.
I drive exactly what my little car with new studded winter tires can do. I let every semi pass as soon as it is safe and I'm more than happy to tail him so he can scare the moose away from the highway. In the last six days, you were the second driver that almost killed me and both of you should have stayed off the highway for different reasons.
Well, I was lucky enough to drive another three hours, bought a lottery ticket and went home.
This week, I will try to get my windshield fixed, that got a big crack after our encounter.
To all the people who had to watch this and had to step on their brakes to avoid the red truck spinning back into his lane, well done, keep safe and good luck to you too!
