National leaders should be at Games

It's difficult to excuse the absence of our national "leadership" from the Canada Winter Games. The Games are the culmination of four years of hard work by promising young Canadians and volunteers. Canada's finest. So where are Harper, Mulcair, and Trudeau? Should they not be here, waving the flag and supporting all our young athletes?

From a strictly political point of view, Harper could justify his absence by pointing to his vote count here in the last few elections, where he won with well over 60 per cent of the vote. However this is no real excuse.

As Prime Minister he owes us all a duty to support the amazing efforts of this community and all the young athletes who have worked so hard. Mulcair, as leader of the opposition, owes his supporters here his time and effort demonstrating there is a viable alternative to the Conservatives.

And Trudeau, if he wants to be leader, he should be here demonstrating leadership. They are all AWOL. All they have demonstrated is a failure of national leadership. Of course the great people of Prince George have compensated for this failure, putting on an amazing event, showing how far away and irrelevant our national leadership has become.
